Jan and Mar 2019. Starved Rock, Illinois.

Sub-freezing winter RV camping. It presents a range of challenges which do not cross the minds of the sun-worshippers basking in winter-friendly RV parks down south. On the other hand, the rewards are many. We spent a few days in January and March hiking the trails of Starved Rock, Illinois. We hiked a circuit from Mustang Canyon around to the overlooks above the Illinois River (Beehive, Eagle, and Lover’s Leap). The reward was the beauty of frozen waterfalls. We watched climbers scale the frozen waterfall in Wildcat canyon. At night, the propane furnace in the RV is a must.
