April 2019, Funnels and Fabrics in Ardmore, OK

Tricia, like all quilters, sees a map as a dart board with darts marking out every quilt shop on the journey.Entering Ardmore Oklahoma, I lose control of the RV as it steers itself to the local quilt store.Key Grocery and Quilts on the corner of E. Broadway and Caddo St NEhas been in the family for two generations.Once a grocery/seed and feed store, Stan now runs an organic gardening business on one side of the store while his wife’s quilt shop occupies the other side. She is a “longarmer”,meaning she does machine embroidery on a long arm quilt machine. While she shows Tricia an assortment of quilt accessories, Stan fills me in on the characteristics of the tornados which move southwest to northeast across the state during tornado season. “When you see a tornado what’s the first thing you’re gonna do?”, I ask.“Well that can kind of depend if you’re in front of it, on the side of it or behind it.”
