Aug 2018 RV Museum in Elkhart

There are folks who RV purely for the pleasure of the outdoors or travel adventure. There are folks who take it further.Like us, they see RVing as a lifestyle option. If you are fascinated by the many ways to make a home out of your RV, you cannot help but wonder how our

RVing forebearers realized their dreams. We spent a fascinating 90 minutes in the GoRving hall of the RV Museum and Hall of Fame in Elkhart Indiana.Rving goes back to 1913 when the first units hit the road.We viewed trailers, camper vans and buses from the 20’s right up to the 80’s.Funny how interior design and function so closely matched the style options of the day.The pre-war utilitarian camp trailers (1916 Cozy Camp tent trailer), the art deco 1937 Hunt Housecar, thevarnished wood paneling and pot-belly stove ofthe 1931 Tennessee Traveler, the 50’s airstreams, the pile carpeting and upholstery of the 1967 Fan Luxury Liner. How we handled the economies of space and comfort are not much different then as now.Fold up tables and beds (as far back as the 1913 Earl Travel Trailer).Slideouts (as far back as the 1916 “Telescoping Apartment”).The combo bathroom and shower stall (the 1937 Hunt House car).Overhead cupboard space.Outside storage.Roof top ventilation.Plus ça change.
